Kathy has served as Principal for the last nine years. The student population is 80 per cent minority and 70 per cent poverty and Disney students are selected by lottery. The school has seen a steady growth in the meets and exceeds category of the state’s assessment standards exam, growing to 89 per cent meeting and exceeding.

The Disney School is one of the premier schools in Chicago and is known for its comprehensive programming, rigorous curriculum and arts/technology integration. The school has received many acknowledgements, such as The Magnet Schools of America's Award of Excellence. Walt Disney Magnet School's underlying premise is that "learning is fun," as they prepare "the children of today for the world of tomorrow”. Kathy also led the first replication project of a Chicago Public School in conjunction with the Renaissance School fund.
