HE Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa
Chief Executive, Economic Development Board, Bahrain
Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa’s role as Chief Executive of the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) is to lead the body entrusted with ensuring the continued growth and stimulation of Bahrain’s economy. He was appointed to this role in June 2005, after ten years as a close and trusted aide to HRH Prince Salman Bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince of Bahrain, ending as President of His Royal Highness’s Court.
An agent for change, the EDB works in close partnership with both the public and private sectors. Its overall responsibilities include formulating and overseeing the economic development strategy of The Kingdom of Bahrain, and creating the right climate to attract investment. Shaikh Mohammed played a key leadership role in EDB’s strategic initiatives, including: launching a Labour Market Reform programme; launching Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 and National Economic Strategy, and education and training reform, which led to the creation of Bahrain Polytechnic, the Quality Assurance Authority (QAA) and Bahrain’s Teachers College.
Shaikh Mohammed is also deeply involved in the wider economic development of the region: he chairs the Young Arab Leaders’ Bahrain chapter, Bahrain Development Bank, Bahrain Polytechnic (Chairman) and the Capital Club Bahrain; vice-chairs Bahrain Mumtalakat Holdings Company; and is a Board member of the Bahrain Association of Banks, the Bahrain Labour Market Regulatory Authority and The Crown Prince’s International Scholarship Programme. |
